You can always make copies for your personal private use. But if you start distributing them, that's when the question of copyright comes into play.

I highly doubt anyone would take you to task for handouts in-church from a church-owned magazine like The Friend. However, if you put them in broader distribution, such as on-line, that would be a different matter.

Usually images in Church magazines have copyright statements next to them, if the copyright is held by someone other than the Church. If you could find the original magazine that the images were cut out of, you might be able to look around the images for a copyright statement, or a rights and use statement.
