Chromebooks and Printers

I'm setting up new chromebooks and printers provided by the FM group. Both devices are on the network and each chromebook can print to its printer via the printers IP address after having been added manually. However, my understanding is that the printer should show up by name (bonjour) in the printer list without having to be added manually. This matters since if the printer doesn't show up automatically, each new account created would have to add it manually. Has anyone had this problem?
The printers are Xerox B235s and are supposed to be compatible with chromebooks. I've changed the Bonjour name just to see if that makes a difference and it doesn't. I could, of course, just use a usb cable--that works--but what's the point of having a network printer then?
