Can Bishops add new baby records or only clerks? I don't see the option anywhere.

Post by jgoggan »

I don't know if I am missing something obvious or if the ability just doesn't exist.

I am a Bishop and want to add a new baby to a family in our ward. (Our clerk was on vacation for a bit, so I just thought that I'd take care of it.) But I can't find the option anywhere. It seems a bit crazy to me that I've done a ton of searching on this -- both here, online in general, and looking through the Handbook and just can't seem to find it.

I tried going to one of the parents in LCR and then went to the Family tab and tried the "Add Child" button under Children. It then asks if the child is a biological or adopted child of the member and I say Yes. It then asks if the child is a member -- with Yes, No, or "I need to create a record." I pick the 3rd choice and it just says "To create a record, select Create Record from the Membership menu." Once there, it has me select the Head of Household and fill in the baby's name and birthdate. I do that and the "Create Record" button is enabled. When I click it, it just shows a PDF of the Child Record Form. So, a couple things with that:

1. You used to be able to fill in Mother/Father for this, but that option appears to be gone and it has to be manually written now.
2. I already DID this before. The parents have already filled it out and given it back to us. So, now what?

I don't see what we're supposed to do AFTER we get the form back from the parents. I see no place to actually put that in -- the entire process and instructions just lead me through creating that PDF to give to the parents -- nothing about what to do when we get it back.

Is this just because I'm the Bishop? Maybe only clerks can see the ability to ACTUALLY ADD the record and not just generate the form for the parents?

I think the system wants the forum uploaded somewhere so the signatures are in the system. But I don't know where that is since I'm not a clerk.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

It is at this point that the form with a signature from one of the parents needs to be uploaded. This is done by either dragging the image of the form to the dropbox, "Drop Form Here", or by clicking the "Browse" button, located inside the "Drop Form Here" box, to locate and select the form on the computer.

It is only after the form is uploaded that the "Create Record" button is activated and can be clicked to create the record.

I think you may have inadvertently clicked the "Child Record Form" button in the box just above the "Drop Form Here" box.

In the process of creating the record by filling in the Primary Household Contact information before entering the child current legal name, child birth name , child gender, birth date, and birth country the parents have been linked to the child automatically and will be included in the child's record and the child in the parents' records.

The linking of records has been abbreviated from the process you recall.

You are correct. I had missed the upload box down below somehow. I see it now and can upload the form there. Thanks.

Yeah, it is just weird that they still have to fill it all in on the form it creates for them to sign though. Like, it knows all the info, it really should just fill in the parents info on the form so that all they really have to do is sign it.

Again, thanks for the info -- I was missing the obvious upload spot somehow. :)

If you go to a parent's member profile, select the 'Family' tab, and click the 'Add Child' button, does that fill in the parents' information?

That's where I started and it just gives you a message that says "To create a record, select Create Record from the Membership menu." Once there, it just asks which household -- and does not pre-fill the parents.

Just tried it myself (as assistant ward clerk--membership). LCR put up a dialog with three options: child is a member; child is not a member; I need to create a record. I don't recall that dialog the last time I created a child record. If I'm remembering correctly and that dialog is indeed new, the option for a non-member child (and no membership record) would seem to make sense. However, I am suspicious that the removal of the path to create a record with the parents information pre-filled might be a bug rather than a feature. If I were in a situation where I had a need to follow through with the full process, I think I'd report it as a bug just to confirm whether it might be a bug.
