New VISCA PTZ Controller - Viscous

Post by andrewjorgensen »

The venerable old D70 Commander doesn't work for me anymore. It connects to the camera fine, but I get an "Error 2" when trying to use presets. So Claude Code and I wrote a replacement. It works for me - our building has a Sony EVI-D80 SD.

It's called Viscous. It's written in Rust and relies heavily on grafton-visca and egui. It works on at least Windows and Linux, and can probably be made to work on macOS, and supports both Serial and TCP, and even joystick controllers. The UI is based on D70 Commander's layout so that it will be familiar. It doesn't have all the features yet, but it has the ones I use.

If you'd be interested in trying it, you can grab the Windows x64 build from https://1drv.ms/u/c/6caf67a59c67f8fb/IQ ... A?e=8lE2Hj
There's no installer, just the one executable. I won't promise to fix bugs, but let me know if it works for you, if you like it, etc. I'll keep working on it for myself until I'm happy with it, and it's as open source as can be with a 0 Clause BSD license (no obligations at all, and no warranty).
