Weekly Financial Summary from wrong email address

Post by bryantbunderson »

The bishopric, clerk, and finance clerk are receiving a Weekly Financial Summary email addressed from the old executive secretary. Where in LCR do I change the Email address that is used when those weekly summaries are sent?

Thanks,
A new ward clerk.

That is quite unusual since the summary should only be sent to those with unit finance permissions and the message is sent from church headquarters. Have there been any changes in callings recently to those positions with finance permissions? If so, it usually takes less than 48 hours for the changes to propagate through the system. If this happens again next Friday then you may need to call Help at the global service department to have them ca look into it.

JD,

Thank you for the help. This has happened for a few months now.

Another strange thing just happened. I sent out an Email to all Ward members using the LCR email app and I got the email (since I am a Ward member) and I also got the notification message from the LCR telling me that the email was done sending. Both those emails said that the sender is the old executive secretary. I verified that the email address attached to my membership record is correct.

I'll give the church a call as you suggest.

Thanks again,
Bryant

I've seen this happen before, and I think it's caused by the email client, but it has a workaround on the server.

Most automated messages from the Church come from noreply@ChurchofJesusChrist.org, despite being from different Church systems. Sometimes a name is included in the "From" field, sometimes "noreply@churchofjesuschrist.org" is plugged in as the name, and sometimes there's no name at all:
  1. "John Smith" <noreply@ChurchofJesusChrist.org>
  2. "noreply@churchofjesuschrist.org" <noreply@ChurchofJesusChrist.org>
  3. <noreply@churchofjesuschrist.org>
I think format (1) is used by the Send a Message tool in Leader and Clerk Resources. (2) is used by, for example, online donation confirmations. (3) is used by various other systems – probably including the Weekly Financial Summary.

In my case, I use Apple Mail, but other email clients may have similar behavior. When my email client sees type (3) without a name, it tries to be smart by looking through previous messages, to see if it can find the name associated with that email address. Because I've had a lot of email messages come into my inbox that say they're from from "John Smith" <noreply@ChurchofJesusChrist.org>, my email client shows "John Smith" in the From field.

If my assumption is correct, that the Weekly Financial Summary is using an email address without a name, the issue could be fixed by plugging "noreply@churchofjesuschrist.org" into the name field before the message is sent, like online donations does.

EDIT: If a recent message you sent via Send a Message in LCR is doing the same thing, I'll bet it needs the same fix. The system may have been plugging in the sender's name a while back (i.e. the name of your old executive secretary), but now isn't plugging in a name at all.
