Anyone else catch the mention of Baby Blessing in today's announcement?
In the past broadcasting any ordnance was prohibited. The Handbook still prohibits the actual sacrament portion of the Sacrament Meeting, but I couldn't find any prohibition against "ordnances" that used to be there. That leaves open the question on Baptisms.

Re: Baby Blessings
I have been attending grandchildren baptisms via Zoom since the COVID shutdown. I thought only the sacrament ordinance was not to be broadcast.

The program, yes. What about the actual baptism?

Re: Baby Blessings
Yes. The ordinance of the sacrament is the only one that is not to be broadcast.
Directions for Essential Ordinances, Blessings, and Other Church Functions, April 16, 2020, and June 11, 2020, says that leaders, family, and friends may observe baptisms, confirmations, priesthood ordinations, and settings apart remotely using technology but should not make a video or audio recording.
This document is also the source of the restriction that the ordinance of the sacrament is not to be broadcast. "Sacrament meetings may also be transmitted to ward members wherever located when authorized by the bishop, but the transmission should not include the ordinance of the sacrament and the transmission should not be recorded."

Re: Baby Blessings
Handbook 38.2.3 allows the streaming of ordinances (the sacrament being the exception.)

Ah, that's what I was looking for. I kept looing in Section 18. Odd that they split things up like that.Cmanrogers wrote: Thu Oct 26, 2023 10:25 pm Handbook 38.2.3 allows the streaming of ordinances (the sacrament being the exception.)

Re: Baby Blessings
Thanks for that Handbook reference. As always, I can't put my finger on what was there previously and what's been recently added or tweaked, it's definitely a moving target. So it's important for me to go back and make sure I'm aware of what current (10/27/23!) policy is for streaming, etc...
