FSY Charges for off-year
Hello, 2024 is our ward's non-FSY year, but we had a few youth attend on their own discretion. We recently got a bill from HQ to pay a portion for each attendee. Reading through the FSY materials it appears there isn't a distinction between FSY years and non-FSY years regarding the wards obligation to pay, so I wanted to be sure this is expected for wards to still contribute to pay for kids who attend, even if it isn't a year for the ward to officially participate. It's not a lot of money, but I want to be sure there wasn't a mistake in billing. Thank you!

Looking though the material, it appears that the bishop has to approve attendance. I'm thinking this is a "you approve, you pay" situation.

Re: FSY Charges for off-year
I've been in two wards so far this year, and here is my understanding (both of the wards have FSY in odd years, so this year is an "off" year):
When giving approval for a youth to attend, the bishop can indicate who will pay. I believe the system defaults to half and half ($75 from the ward, $75 from the family, for US-based participants), and it can be easy to miss this when approving youth to attend FSY in off years.
In the first ward I was in, I saw the screen that the bishop used to approve a youth and it felt really busy with a lot of information and was easy to miss the radio button that indicated that they youth's family would pay the full amount.
In the second ward I'm in, we've been charged for 5 youth to attend (so far), and we've been going back to the parents and apologizing that we didn't select the correct option and we're requesting that those families reimburse the ward $75 into the Budget:FSY account.
Most/all of the parents understood that they were always going to pay the full amount and have been happy to reimburse the ward.
Thank you~,
Nathan

Re: FSY Charges for off-year
