Return Missionary application to applicant?

Post by jgoggan »

I am a Bishop. Someone submitted their paperwork for a mission and it came to me for review and approval. After that, he realized that he had forgotten to update a couple of sections that had changed from when he originally started filling out the paperwork. He asked if I could "return it to him" to make those changes. I can't seem to find any way to do this. My only options are to View/Print the forms, Change the forms, or Cancel the application (which I confirmed does NOT return it to him -- it actually deletes it completely).

Is there a way to move it back to the "Candidate(s) Completing Forms" section so that he can edit it?

It looks like I could use the "Change" option to do it myself -- but then he'd have to tell me all of his changes and I'd have to make them. I'd rather just return it to him to update.

Is there a way to do this that I am missing?

I just looked through prior chats on this subject and found several places where this question has been asked.
The best response was one posted in 2017, although more recent versions of this same answer exist as recent as 2023:

"Once a recommendation has been submitted by a candidate to the branch president (or bishop), it generally cannot be returned.
Priesthood leaders and authorized clerks have the ability to modify recommendations. Your branch president can contact the Global Service Center for additional assistance."

Apparently, there is not a way to return the application once submitted. This also holds true once a Bishop submits it to the Stake.
I was not able to discover whether a phone call to the Global Service Center made a difference.
