Incorrect gender on two-year-old - how to correct?

Post by kvdubbayu »

Hi! I'm a newish ward clerk that is trying to straighten out a few issues with a member that has recently moved into my ward. The woman has a two-year-old daughter that is marked as a son on the church record; trying to correct that gives me the message, "Because this record was created more than three months ago, this member’s gender cannot be changed unless authorized by the Office of the First Presidency. Please contact the Global Service Department."

The prior unit doesn't know why the child was listed as a son; would someone in GSD be able to point me to a written process for making this correction? Thank you!

GSD would be the place to go in this situation. They probably see this situation frequently enough that they are well acquainted with the procedure.

Thanks! What I meant to say was, how do I contact GSD to ask them for the procedure to correct the gender?

Oh, that little detail. :-) Phone numbers for the GSD can be found via the "Phone numbers" link in this post: viewtopic.php?p=246779#p246779 I'd suggest bookmarking the GSD phone numbers link and/or saving the phone number for your area.

As a ward clerk you can also get the telephone number by going into Leader and Clerk Resources, after logging onto the Church website, and clicking Help/Contact Us in the menu bar. You can also submit trouble tickets or send an email to support on that page.

Have you tried finding your answer on the ChurchofJesusChrist.org Help Center or Tech Wiki?

We did this same process a couple years ago, it's all internal to the Church's systems so there's no LCR interface. The first GSD "ticket" was processed and marked as resolved, and after a couple of weeks still no changes appeared in the child's record. So I contacted GSD again and a second "ticket" was opened, and after some back-and-forth regarding the prior ticket, the gender was changed. They were quite understanding that this was truly a clerical error by whoever originally created the child's member record.

As a "newish ward clerk" I would recommend saving the GSD number as a contact and preferably memorizing it. I frequently have to give the number out to members for things like password resets and it is probably my most called number (other than immediate family) because LCR has a lot of issues.
