Word Processing on Chromebooks

Post by cfnag »

I've just replaced a Win 11 clerk computer with a chromebook. The question that the bishopric asked me was how they would write and print the Sunday program from the chromebook. I didn't have an answer for them, other than to do it at home and bring a PDF file on a thumb drive to print it on Sunday morning. Their workflow has been that one of them comes early on Sunday and creates the program (their old computer used Libre Office) from a template and then prints it. Since the copier never works right, especially for duplexing, they just print 30 copies on the clerk printer. They don't want to log in to personal Google accounts to edit in Google Docs. Is there an approved word processing package that we can install on a chromebook? If so, how do I install it so that guest logins can use it? The wiki references the "play store" but on the chromebook is has the "Google Store," and they aren't, apparently, curated apps, as everything in the normal store shows up there. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you saying Google Docs isn't available on individual church logins or as guest?

Only personal Google Docs accounts would be used since Clerk Chromebooks do not have traditional google accounts: https://tech.churchofjesuschrist.org/wi ... plications

But since they do not want to use personal accounts, the approved app that can be installed from the restricted Play Store is Collabora Office = https://tech.churchofjesuschrist.org/wi ... Chromebook
