Storing More Than Talents and Interests in Custom Fields

By going to System Options, then click on Members, then click onb Custom Fields, then the "Add Custom Fields" screen appears. Our ward chose to add the following Custom Fields: (1) Sports ability,
(2) Music ability (3) Special training and (4) Food specialty...With this accomplished, a membership clerk, one who can "View and Update" membership records can then "add" Talents and Interests, Sports ability, Music ability Special training (4) Food specialty plus several more, up to 11 total, Custom Fields for "every" ward member.

To add these any one or more of the above to a member's record, to go "Membership Records" and click on "view and update, then click on "more". After "selecting" a member The option to choose (a) Talents and Interests or (b) Custom Fields widow appears..Choose Talents and Interest first. Select a talent or interest that matches the member chosen...If it is not there, go to the bottom of the page and "press" the "ADD" button. Now add all additional talents and interests that are now known...(more can be added later as needed). One member may have several Talents and Interests, adding all that they given you to enter. After completing these, then "click" on Custom Fields (Sports ability, Music ability, Special training, and Food specialty and any others, one at a time. Fill in the box provided for each one by pressing OK...Later press "SAVE"....before going to the next individual.

The definitions of the above Custom Fields are to be entered at the time of creating each Custom Field. The Definition of each Custom Field, as shown above, might include the following: (1) Like Tennis, Basketball, golf, etc. (2) Play/Teach piano, organ, violin, cello, sing, etc (3) Like Electronics, Barber, Welder, Nurse, Dr, Mid-Wife, CPR, etc and (4) Home-made ice-cream, cookies, Dutch Oven Cooking, etc... When entering the Name and Description, there is a selection that needs to be made (a)Date or (b) String...Choose String. Whenever a (new) Custom Field is given a name it immediately becomes available for an MLS Custom Report...The Custom Report will print what ever is stored for the Custom Fields "filled" in for ever ward member is selected by a Preferred Name...
It is best that only 6 columns, name, talents and interests, and 4 more Custom Field names provide the best presentation on the printed page...If more is needed, make up an addititional MLS Custom Report. It is best to provide Ward Talent and Interest Survey sheet for members to fill out, listing "each" Name, as well as its Definition, like that shown above, members Know how to fill it in. A picture of what this may look like will be shown below...if that is possible to do...at this time..
